PRP injections & loving the result!
While the thought of injections on my face didn’t really scareme (I’ve been getting Botox for a few years now), drawing blood for my arm and having it injected on my face kind of did. I read and of course saw pictures of celebrities doing PRP treatments, better known as “vampire facials.” I was intrigued by the benefits of PRP and wanted to try it for myself.
If you are unfamiliar with the term, PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma which is a treatment used by doctors for several reasons, from encouraging hair growth to promoting soft tissue-healing. When used to address aesthetic problems, PRP will help with collagen production and cell turnover for smoother and better-toned skin.
After a little research I learned that PRP is beneficial for just about every woman (or man) regardless of age and skin type. I do believe you will see more jaw-dropping results if your skin is more mature. I also learned that if I wanted more noticeable results I needed to commit and dedicate more time and money to my skin’s transformation. So, I booked 3 appointments with Nahla for my PRP treatments and I’m amazed at the results. My skin looks amazing!
What to expect during your appointment:
To develop a PRP preparation, blood needs to be drawn from your arm. The platelets are separated from other blood cells through a process called centrifugation (it only takes about 5 minutes). After that time, Nahla will work her magic and place the “plasma” in a couple of syringes. Now you can do this treatment 2 ways; you can use Microneedling and apply the plasma topically, or you can injected all over your face. Since I’m obsessed with skin care, of course I chose to inject it on my face!
If you go with this option a local anesthetic should be applied to the face and you should not have any alcohol or ibuprofen at least a week prior to your treatment (believe me it is worth it!). While we were waiting for the anesthetic to work, Nahla and I were chatting and if you have ever been in her spa you know there is always something to talk about.
After your treatment:
Your face will be ultra-puffy (it is normal and expected), you may even bruised like I did. I have a tendency to bruising easily; so I was prepared (my husband wasn’t). Nahla even gave me a syringe of plasma to apply topically to my face for the following week, which of course I did diligently. If it is your first time doing PRP, your face might be swollen for up to 5 days (please do not wear any makeup during that 1st week). I believe this will be different for everyone, but I was swollen for almost a week. With the bruises and the inflated face, the first week was not my best. My skin did not look good and I didn’t feel attractive at all; BUT, after those first seven days my skin started glowing.
I finished my 3rd treatment a month ago and I have to say: I’m hooked. PRP can did wonders for my skin. Yes, it was painful at times. Yes, my face looked bad during the first week, and yes I bruised every time. But, it was definitely worth it. My pores are diminished, my skin looks radiant, fine lines are gone, no more hyperpigmentation. My morning routine is easier than ever, I only apply some moisturizer and sunscreen and I’m ready to go.I’m definitely doing it again in a few months. Will I recommended? ABSOLUTELY.
